These photographs are from my landscape workshop this weekend. On Saturday we painted at the Carmel Lagoon. It started as a glorious morning of sunshine but by the afternoon the fog rolled in changing our light dramatically. On our second day we painted at the Carmel Mission. After two days of plein-air painting, I think we all were exhausted but it was a good feeling of exhaustion. A feeling of a hard days work and braving the elements.
Carmel Lagoon, 11" x 14" oil on panel
Completed in plein air in 2 1/2 hrs.
The painting of the Carmel Lagoon is amazing. Painting outside is always a challenge but never more than when the weather changes so radically. Good to talk to you at the CAC Gold Medal Show.
Hi Sharon,
It was nice to meet you at the CAC Gold Medal Exhibition. Your not kidding when you say "challenge", the wind blew the easel over after I removed the palette, covering about 1/5 of the painting with sand. I had to scrap the sand off in my studio and touch it up to get it back to its original state. Thanks for your comment.

Oh NO. I paint with a plein air group on Thursday and one of the artists throws gravel and dirt on the canvas. It is one of his signatures. Just proves it is real I guess.
Ruth,
Thanks for commenting. To clarify, the two images of the Carmel Mission painting are two separate paintings. The finished version was completed over the course of two days.
